How to rotate or mirror a video

Choose a local video. Use the preview to judge its displayed orientation.
Select a clockwise angle. Try 90° or 270° for sideways footage, or 180° if it is upside down.
Apply a mirror if needed. Leave both boxes unchecked when you only want a turn. Reset restores 0° and clears both mirrors.
Preview and export MP4. Check orientation, readable text and sound. Keep the tab open while the file processes.
Review the finished video and download. Changing a setting clears the previous result, so export again after adjustments.

Example: fix a sideways phone recording

A clip displays at 1920 × 1080 with the top of the scene pointing left. Select 90° clockwise to stand it upright; the output becomes 1080 × 1920. If the top points right instead, choose 270°. A mirror is not needed just because the clip is sideways.

If the people are already upright in a landscape shot, turning the entire image would put them sideways. To place that shot into a vertical frame, use Social Media Resizer, or crop the video to choose a smaller visible area. Browse all free tools for other edits.

Questions about rotating and flipping video

Does rotation preserve quality and audio?

The video is re-encoded as H.264 MP4 at 30 fps, so quality and file size can change. This is not a lossless edit to orientation metadata. Sound is retained when the browser can decode and encode it; silent videos also work.

Are my videos uploaded?

No. Preview and export run on your device, without an account or credits. The page may download code, but does not upload your video. Download the result before leaving.

Which rotation angles can I use?

Choose 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° clockwise. Use 270° for a quarter-turn left, or 180° for an upside-down clip. Keep 0° to apply only a mirror. There is no arbitrary-angle or partial-clip rotation.

What is the difference between the two flip controls?

Mirror left to right swaps the picture’s left and right sides; text appears reversed. Flip top to bottom swaps its upper and lower edges. Mirrors apply after rotation, along the output picture’s axes. Check signs and faces in the preview.

Will rotating crop or stretch the picture?

The canvas follows the turn. At 90° or 270°, width and height swap; the whole picture is retained without cropping or stretching. Odd dimensions gain at most one pixel of padding for MP4 encoding. The output dimensions appear beside the controls.

Which files and browsers can I use?

Open one local video that your browser can decode. MP4, MOV and WebM containers can hold different codecs, so an extension alone does not guarantee support. Export needs WebCodecs encoding. Capacity depends on duration, resolution and available memory; larger clips take longer.
